ENRAGED by a recent statement credited to Governor Rochas Okorocha of
Imo State that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is dead and
non-existence in the state, the National Deputy President, South, Chief
Chris Ejike Uche, yesterday described such statement as untrue, urging
the public to disregard it.
Uche, a former commissioner in
charge of Transport in the state during the first few months of
Okorocha’s regime, accompanied to the briefing by a former governorship
candidate, Chief Peter Ezenwa Orji, regretted that a governor, who was
elected under the platform of APGA could make such “unfortunate
statement”.
Okorocha had few days ago said he had taken away
the APGA structure in Imo State comprising all the 27 local council sole
administrators and government appointees to the APC, declaring APGA
dead in the state by this action.
Uche disclosed that Okorocha,
now on suspension for romancing with the newly-registered All
Progressives Congress (APC), may face expulsion from the APGA soon,
adding that Chief Martin Agbaso remains the leader of the APGA in Imo
State, stressing that Chief Willy Obiano had been working hard to bring
the party alive in the Anambra governorship polls soon.
Uche
opined: “In my opinion, APGA is very strong more than before in Imo
State and other states. If he says so, which APGA is preparing for
election in Oguta”?
Reinforcing this view, Orji said it was
due to the strength of APGA in 2011that assisted Okorocha to coast to
victory, beating the then Governor Ikedi Ohakim, and not necessarily the
personality profile of Okorocha.
Orji said the APGA
administration was poised to win in the next governorship election in
Anambra, given the feat performed by the incumbent, Mr. Peter Obi,
urging Okorocha not to play politics with Christianity.
Meanwhile, National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday at
the inauguration of the state APGA caretaker committee in Abuja, said
that Okorocha’s days as Imo governor are numbered, stressing that the
party will reclaim the state.
Umeh contended that APGA is well entrenched in the state and cannot be uprooted by APC.
