Lagos Assembly Faults Yoruba Leaders on Jonathan’s Re-election Bid

LAGOS State House of Assembly Wednesday faulted the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan’s second-term bid by some Yoruba leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “another in a series of paid endorsements by President Jonathan.”

Collapsed Building Kills 1-Year-Old Baby in Lagos


Several others were injured when the three-storey building collapsed in Mushin.
A year-old baby was killed and several others injured on Tuesday when a three-storey building collapsed at Challenge Bus stop, Mushin, Lagos.



Ibrahim Farinloye, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South West, spokesman, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that victims, who were injured when the building collapsed, had been rescued and taken to Mushin Hospital.

Governor Babatunde Fashola "Controversial" Law on Cremation

Governor of Lagos state, south-west Nigeria, Babatunde Fashola has signed the cremation bill into law. This is one law that will sure generate controversy in the days or even months ahead. It is expected, it is welcome.

Like David Mark, our own senate president said on lesbianism, cremation law is strange to Nigeria and Nigerians; it is not in our character. It is against our culture. It is an imported concept. As if Islam and Christianity is also not an imported religion.

Ikorodu: City Where Residents Sleep with the Two Eyes Wide Open


That is why the whole community gets polluted with the hooting sound of vehicles as early as 4.00 a.m. everyday as many residents have to scramble to get out of town before dawn so as not to get trapped in the traffic and arrive late at their work place.

The road networks within Ikorodu town are even more problematic. Despite the fact that the town has good urban and regional planning with a network of roads, these roads are in bad shape making residents wonder if Ikorodu was a component of Lagos State where Governor Raji Fashola has been acclaimed to be doing well.

LASG to Commission 10.4MW Power Plant in August

According to Business News newspaper, the Lagos State government will in August, commission a 10.4megawatt power plant to replace the 14-MW diesel generator used within the state secretariat, which also houses the seat of government.

The State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Taofiq Tijani, at a press briefing to commemorate the 6th anniversary of Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration in Lagos, said the Independent Power Plant, IPP, would be commissioned in August this year.
