Will Victor Valdes be in goal for Arsenal next season?
Victor Valdes
has been linked with an exit from Barcelona for several months, after
the goalkeeper said he wanted to try a new adventure away from the La
Liga winners. But in recent weeks speculation had grown that the stopper could
remain at the club, with figures in the Barcelona hierarchy trying to
persuade him to stay.
Now Spanish newspaper Marca has claimed that Valdes has made his final decision on his future - That he will leave Barcelona this summer.
At the top of their report, the paper hints that he could be on his way to the Gunners.
"Arsenal could be the destination for the Spain international, but first the London club must come to an agreement with Barcelona."
No other clubs are mentioned in the report, hinting that Arsenal's interest is the most serious in the 31-year-old compared to any other side fleetingly linked to the goalkeeper.
Arsenal are hunting for a goalkeeper to provide competition for
Wojciech Szczesny next season, with him preferred against Wigan to
injury-prone Lukasz Fabianski, who is expected to leave when his
contract runs down this summer.
The Gunners
were claimed to have had a bid for Portuguese international Rui
Patricio turned down earlier this week, and have also been linked with
Bundesliga based Rene Adler and Sven Ulreich.
In the Premier League Simon Mignolet, Asmir Begovic and even Pepe
Reina have been linked inwards, but Valdes certainly has more star
quality than any of his competitors, being the only one able to boast of
being a Champions League winner, a multiple one at that.
Clearly any deal is a way off, but if Arsenal were waiting for
the green light that Valdes had decided to leave Barcelona, they may
just have got it.
Should Arsenal move for Valdes?
