Tottenham Hotspur will tell Gareth Bale that he is not for sale at any price when the Wales international returns from holiday in the United States.
The club will insist that they have no intention of accepting offers for the
23 year-old even if he does not agree to an improved contract, which will be
offered to him during the discussions.
Real
Madrid are urging Bale to submit a transfer request to try and push
through a £60 million deal. However, the player would be reluctant to take
such a step while an offer from Real would renege on a written promise they
have given Spurs
that they will not bid this summer.
There is a sense at Spurs that Real are attempting to prepare the ground for a
move next year. Club president Fiorentino Pérez, who still hopes to hire
Carlo Ancelotti as Jose Mourinho’s replacement, is under scrutiny with fans
demanding a big signing.
The Spanish club have applied pressure on Tottenham all week, with Pérez
saying that Bale “was born” to play for the club and Zinedine Zidane, who is
set to be promoted to take care of the club’s transfers, praising the
player. Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, also appeared on Marca TV last week
to express his willingness to listen to Real.
It could be that Real sign Liverpool’s
Luis Suárez this year and then return for Bale. Although Liverpool are
publicly insisting Suárez is not for sale, it is believed that an offer of
more than £40 million could change their minds.
