Mourinho is set to leave Real Madrid this summer and rejoin the
London club, with whom he won two Premier League titles and an FA Cup
during his first spell in charge.
In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, Lampard admitted he is relishing the chance to link up with the Portuguese coach again.
The midfielder credits Mourinho for his transformation into one of the world’s leading midfielders and, when asked what makes the 50-year-old so special, he said: “It’s a presence and an aura and a way with people.
He galvanises people. His own self-confidence reflects back on his teams and he did that to me personally.
"Tactically, he’s very astute and, as a team, he sets you up brilliantly. What he does is get the best out of players, and gets this togetherness I’d never known until he came to the club and I haven’t seen it again since then.
“He’s brilliant with his team, he’s brilliant with individuals and I think he’s brilliant with the press. Now I know he creates a storm here and there but he does protect his players.
"He made me believe I could be better than I was at the time. I thought I was a decent player at the time, but I was a little bit inside myself about it.
And he said to me, ‘listen, you can really get to the top’ and he made me believe it. Maybe I’m quite impressionable.
But he told me that, and I just tried to take it on and do it.
"I have had really good managers at times but it's the ones that get the best out of you. We’re all human beings and if the manager doesn’t talk to you or tell you what they want [it’s hard to have confidence]. Mourinho brought my confidence to a level that it had never been.”
